Maine Farmers & Fishers
My priority as a photographer is to connect people with the food systems we participate in at each meal.
This body of work is a reflection of my own experience as a seasonal farm worker and my respect for the people who feed their communities and care for the land and water.
I am committed to telling visual stories with documentary integrity. To me, that means working with the weather and the flow of farm work, not around or in-between it. I've made these photos in harsh noon daylight, in the rain, in dark barns, and always on the fly. Sometimes the light is perfect, and sometimes I do what I can to make it perfect. After farming myself for four years, I have a strong sense for anticipating the direction of farm workers and animals, and an extreme sensitivity to farmers' time.
