Spring Cleaning
Here in Maine, somewhere between melting and thawing,
there's a time for harvesting wood.
This tree had been leering directly over a farm workers' cabin for years.
Graham Burford and Göran Johanson met and learned arboriculture at Sterling College in Vermont. They teamed up to take down this tree on a visit to Göran's parents' farm this March.
Göran applied upward tension with a line while Graham made midair cuts to remove top sections. Then they used wedges and cookies to fell the trunk precisely and safely.
The wood will be twitched out with horses, chopped, and added to next year's stack for the farm's cabins and sugar house.
