Portland Woman Wins Photo Contest

I recently won a photo contest in the newspaper of the area where I farmed for four years. It was great to get the chance to be interviewed about my experience on the farm:

Kelsey Kobik’s photo of a horse at Goranson Farm in Dresden received the most votes to become the seventh monthly winner of the 2018 #LCNme365 photo contest. Kobik will receive a $50 gift certificate to Riverside Butcher Co., of Damariscotta, the sponsor of the July contest.

A Portland woman with a passion for farm photography won the July #LCNme365 photo contest with her photo of a draft horse at Goranson Farm in Dresden.

Kelsey Kobik worked at Goranson Farm for four summers, meaning she “basically got to see the best of the farm at all times of the day,” she said.

“Lincoln County is a pretty magical place to live, and I appreciated my time there,” Kobik said.

In June, Kobik was at the farm early one morning when she saw Emma, one of the farm’s draft horses, walking through a field of daisies while fog hung in the air. She snapped a photo with her Nikon camera using a 24-70 mm lens.

This summer, Kobik is traveling the state capturing photos of farmers at work.

“I’m really trying to help the farm community by showing the hard work they put in,” Kobik said. “I want to be more deliberate and purposeful with my photography.”

Kobik entered the photo into the #LCNme365 photo contest by adding the hashtag to her photo on Instagram. She was excited to learn that readers of The Lincoln County News voted her photo the best of the month.

“My work is very personal to me, so if it means something to other people, that’s a big deal to me,” Kobik said.
